A head-on view of 47 Laboratory's flagship Redbook CD transport, the PiTracer, mounted on Double-Stacked Series 2+ Rollerblocks on an Ultra Platform. Instead of moving a separated laser reader assembly that's connected by wires to separated, conventional circuitry, the PiTracer employs a custom, monolithic-construction Large Scale Integration chip embedded in a solid block of machined aluminum. This keeps parts count to a minimum, and the laser assembly as close to the chip as possible for theoretically better performance. Using a sophisticated location feedback system, the entire assembly "traces" the "pits" of the CD. The PiTracer is an example of innovative thinking and engineering whose performance is brought to the highest possible realization by a set of Rollerblocks and an Ultra Platform.
