Series 1 - the beginning
The earliest Rollerblocks, made in 1997, are referred to as Series 1. Shown at left in the above picture, these are distinguished by the following characteristics:
Absence of laser-engraved border around the polished cup area
No acoustic foam in the bottom "matrix"
Legend below trademark on side reads "Patent Pending"
Top legend reads "No. xxx" instead of "Set No. xxxx"
In addition, the following characteristics marked the very earliest Series 1 Rollerblocks:
7/16" diameter chromium steel balls as opposed to 1/2" chromium
Stainless steel Rollerplates were NOT provided
Other differences
The manufacturing process for the Series 1 Rollerblocks also differed from that of the later Series 2, which benefited from more advanced manufacturing and polishing techniques. Also, it was found that the absence of foam in the matrix holes could, in certain situations, cause a slight "forwardness" in the 6 kHz region (probably due to a Helmholtz resonance in the holes themselves). This was completely cured by filling the matrix with acoustic foam, and a side benefit was that the acoustic foam also provided for greater dissipation of vibratory energy, bringing performance up a notch.
The Upgrade Program
Send us your old Series 1 Rollerblocks and we will upgrade them to Series 2+. The upgrade includes:Repolishing the cup to current surface standards

New 1/2" Grade 10 Tungsten Carbide balls (Grade 3 or Grade 2.5 Superballs also available)
New stainless steel Rollerplates
New instruction sheet
Repackaging your set in a current "Series 2+" box
The performance of Series 1 Rollerblocks is only exceeded by Series 2 or Series 2+ Rollerblocks; our upgrade program will enable you to realize the same quality that a new set of Series 2 can provide. Please contact us direct for pricing and turnaround times.
Older Series 2 Rollerblock Refurbishment
If your Series 2 bodies and cups are in less than optimal condition
Depending upon many factors, the cups of Series 2 Rollerblocks may become damaged or merely lose their polished finish. If this is the case, we can repolish your cups and bring them up to new condition Also, your Series 2 Rollerblocks may have chromium steel balls or the older Grade 25 Tungsten balls. Quality of the ball bearing is absolutely critical, and if you are not using Grade 10 or Superballs, you are not experiencing the full potential of your Rollerblock system. If you bought your set second hand or are otherwise not sure what kind of ball bearings your Rollerblock set has, we can also determine this for you.
